Ylang Ylang is a sweet smelling yellow flower with long trailing petals and is a member of the 'custard-apple' tree. The scent is sweet, light and evocative of sunshine days and walks along quiet, sandy beaches. Worn late afternoon and into the evening - here is a scent to be proud of! Pandanus is a tree whose leaves are generally used for making floor mats. It has a fruit, which when ripe, is a deep orange colour and produces a very sweet, lingering perfume. We locally use the fruit in"eis" or flower necklaces. This product is lighter, but retaining the sweet, romantic scent that brings back memories of long balmy evenings. Fragrances made from white flowers remain firm favourites as these tend to bring out the feminine senses. Jasmine is a delicate flower with so many simple floral notes. A scent that has lasted the test of time from the Romans to the ancient Egyptians who used the scent for pleasure rather than religious rituals. Cleopatra met Mark Anthony for the first time on a royal barge with jasmine-infused sails. Growing wild as well as grown in the gardens of Rarotonga, Jasmine is always a delight to wear. Gardenia - from a beautiful flower that can be so intense but also has a gentle softness that makes life around you seem so smooth. Gardenia is the white flower par excellence that reminds women most of their carefree girlhood. It has a freedom aroma that intensifies during dusk (and dawn!). Frangipani on the other hand ranges from a pure white, through a hint of yellow to deep pink. Frangipani is everywhere in Rarotonga and is the scent that will often greet you at the airport! Frangipani was the name of an Italian perfume used to scent gloves in the 16th century and named after its creator, the Marquis Frangipani. When the frangipani flower was discovered its natural aroma reminded people of the scented gloves, and so the flower was called frangipani.
