Ylang Ylang is a sweet smelling yellow flower with long trailing petals and is a member of the 'custard-apple' tree. The scent is sweet, light and evocative of sunshine days and walks along quiet, sandy beaches. Worn late afternoon and into the evening - here is a scent to be proud of! Pandanus is a tree whose leaves are generally used for making floor mats. It has a fruit, which when ripe, is a deep orange colour and produces a very sweet, lingering perfume. We locally use the fruit in"eis" or flower necklaces. Frangipani on the other hand ranges from a pure white, through a hint of yellow to deep pink. Frangipani is everywhere in Rarotonga and is the scent that will often greet you at the airport! Frangipani was the name of an Italian perfume used to scent gloves in the 16th century and named after its creator, the Marquis Frangipani. When the frangipani flower was discovered its natural aroma reminded people of the scented gloves, and so the flower was called frangipani.
